Have you recently had to cancel a birthday party because you’re trying to keep your family safe from Covid-19? Does your child have an upcoming birthday and you’re panicked because you don’t know how to make his day a special one?
Just because we have to social distance due to Coronavirus, doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate special events.
I put together a list of 11 Fun Virtual Birthday Party Ideas for Kids. In addition, I created a list of resources to help you to start planning a virtual party.
WHAT IS A VIRTUAL BIRTHDAY PARTY
Every year, just like clockwork, our birthdays roll around. But to your child, their birthday is the ONE DAY OF THE YEAR they look forward to having their friends and family celebrating with them. I mean, who doesn’t like cake, games and gifts right?
Don’t stress out thinking you have to cancel the party this year. You can still have a virtual birthday party.
A virtual birthday party is a party with friends or family attending remotely.
Each person can stay in their own homes for the party. All they need is a video link on your computer or smart phone.
There is some pre-planning necessary. But guess what – you can make this birthday one they will never forget!

1. Cake Decorating
You can have a fun cake decorating party where everyone decorates a cake or cupcakes. Check with your local bakery who may be selling pre-made decorating kits that come with a small cake or cupcakes, frosting and sprinkles.
Each child can attend the birthday party by video-conference and show off their talents.
Decorating cakes and cupcakes is always a kids favorite, so you can’t go wrong with this idea.
2. Spa Day
Do you have a little princess or diva at home? A spa day would be the perfect idea.
Make kits ahead of time with nail polish, stickers, glitter and a fun little eye mask that you can buy online or make at home if you’re crafty. Nothing screams girly spa day like having fun doing a mani/pedi.
3. Painting
Who doesn’t love painting! Painting parties are perfect for boys or girls. You can buy painting kits ahead of time and the kids can have fun sharing their art. Amazon sells painting kits that come with a mini canvas, easel, acrylic paint and paint brushes.

Painting parties are great for adults too. My painting party would include a glass of wine.
4. Gaming
Gaming is a great way for kids to play together even from far away.
There are plenty of online games that are perfect for boys and girls. Just make sure that the games are neutral for all age types as some parents don’t allow their kids to pay any shooting type games.
5. Dance-Off
What a riot a dance-off party would be. You can have fun songs and games for the kids to interact together.
Have a list of fun party songs like the Electric Slide and have the kids dance to the music together. They can also have a dance-off to see who has the best moves.
6. Cooking
Cooking is a perfect party theme that can be done by girls or boys. Come up with a fun menu idea like individual pizzas ahead of time or find one in your favorite cookbook.
Gather all the ingredients in fun kits and share them ahead of time so everyone can enjoy the fun while on the video party meeting.

Kids love DIY slime making kits! Making slime would be the perfect fun virtual activity for kids to do.
Slime kits can be sent to the party goers in advance so everyone has fun creating slime at the same time.
