2020 has turned out to be a weird year. There has been so much going on for all of us, so, who doesn’t need a little distraction? The one thing that I realized is that the cake shows, contests, and challenges have all but disappeared this year. Going to cake shows was something so many cake artists looked forward to because you learn so many new skills and also have the opportunity to see new and exciting products on the market.
Enough of not attending cake shows! Have you heard about the Cake Maker Challenge Group? Maybe we can’t all walk around convention centers to see other cake artists showcase their work, but what we can do is get together for some cake fun all while keeping socially distant. This is why I created the private Cake Maker Challenge Group on Facebook.
The Cake Maker Challenge Group is a group of cake artists of all skill levels. Those who join the Cake Maker Challenge group get to be involved in lots of cakey contests and challenges. In this group, you’ll also get the benefit of everyone sharing helpful tips and tricks.
Our kick-off started with the Halloween Cake Challenge. We had lots of spooky cakes and everyone did an amazing job. Some of the photos from that contest are below:

It’s been so exciting to see how the Cake Maker Challenge Group has grown! Each month we feature different cake contests, some of which have been the January Gnomie Contest, Valentine’s Cake Contest and now we are into March…so you guessed it — St. Patrick’s Day Cake Maker Contest!
Some more photos from the contests can be seen below:
Prizes to the winners in October included Amazon gift cards and some cake swag! As the group grows, we will be looking for other collaborators and contributors to share some new and exciting cake products.
No matter what your level of experience is, please don’t be intimidated.
The best part of joining is that you can benefit from learning from other cake decorators and artists of every skill level. So please don’t feel intimidated. We have all had to start at the beginning. This is the perfect group to join, so you can grow your skills.
Is there is a new skill you would like to learn, like working with modeling chocolate? Or maybe there is a product on the market that you have not worked with before that we can share more information about. The only way you are going to learn is by joining, so come by and say hello and let share some of your work with us.
The next challenge that is starting this month is a March St. Patrick’s Day Cake Challenge. Are you ready to join?
