What is Cricut Infusible Ink?

Cricut brand carries a huge line of vinyl to embellish all types of projects.  But you might be wondering what is Cricut Infusible Ink?  It’s one of my favorite products to use for crafting.  So let me explain what Cricut Infusible Ink is, and how to use it.

What is Cricut Infusible Ink?

Do you love using your Cricut machine to cut out vinyl or iron-on transfers for t-shirts and tote bags? Have you experienced peeling, flaking, or fading that can sometimes happen with using this method?  I can’t wait to share a new product from Cricut that will revolutionize the way you create wearable designs!  It’s Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer sheets.  What is Cricut Infusible Ink?

How is Cricut Infusible Ink different than iron-on vinyl?

If you’ve worked with iron-on vinyl in the past, you know there can be a host of things that can go wrong if you don’t apply it just right. Without enough heat or pressure, some areas of your design end up looking too light if the vinyl does stick. If you use too much heat, you can burn the vinyl. And after wearing and washing, the iron-on transfer can crack, peel, wrinkle, and flake.

Cricut Infusible ink is a flake-proof, pell-proof, and wash-proof!

Say goodbye to the problems of iron-on transfers when you use Cricut Infusible Ink.  This ink is on the convenient sheets that can be cut to any design in Cricut Design Space.  Once heat and pressure is applied, the ink infuses into the fibers of the fabric, instead of laying on top of the fabric. When Cricut Infusible Ink adheres to the fibers of your shirt, the vivid, vibrant design is 100% permanent, and no amount of stretching, washing, or twisting will ruin the design…EVER!

How to use Cricut Infusible Ink

To create your first Cricut Infusible Ink project, you’ll need a few materials:

TIP: When handling Cricut Infusible Ink, wear gloves so the oils in your hands will not damage the ink transfer sheet.

  1. Open your Cricut Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet box, and lay your chosen sheet (the color side facing up) on your standard grip Cricut mat.
  2. Create a design in Design Space (be sure to mirror the design) and select Infusible Ink Transfer Sheet. If you are using a Cricut Explore, set the dial on your machine to “Custom,” insert your mat, and proceed with cutting as usual.
  3. Remove the mat from the machine and take the transfer sheet off the mat.
  4. Use tweezers to remove excess material from the transfer sheet– leaving only your design.
  5. Heat your Cricut Easy Press. Cricut created an easy-to-use online Heat Transfer Guide that takes the guesswork out of your transfer. Just look up the base material and heat transfer material, and the Heat Transfer Guide suggests the correct temperature and length of press for a permanent design every time!
  6. Prepare your base by removing any debris using a lint roller.
  7. Center your design on the t-shirt, tote, or pillowcase and press in place (heat resistant tape can help deter any sliding). Slide a piece of cardstock or butcher paper into your base, so colors don’t bleed through, and cover with one more piece of butcher paper.
  8. Place your Cricut Easy Press on top, start the timer according to the Heat Transfer Guide timing, and apply firm pressure.
  9. Remove the Cricut Easy Press by lifting straight up and allow your design to cool a little.
  10. Use tweezers to lift the transfer sheet, revealing your gorgeous, vibrant design.
